Well done to all the exhibitors - three really good classes, four including the pairs - all nice animals and all beautifully turned out What also impressed me was that although some of them were a bit unsettled by being in an unfamiliar place, they all stood quietly while I examined them underneath so they had obviously all been well handled beforehand. Needles Hall Lollyanna a lovely, well balanced non-short heifer by Needles Hall Barac Obama took the championship over Eagleridge Tobias, a promising young bull, by Eagleridge Apollo, who just had the edge for reserve over Humberside Poppy(sire Belvoir Theo) a very smart little heifer. Two very well matched homebred heifers by Hillgrove Jack won the pairs class.
This is an excellent venue for anyone bringing animals out for the first time – good luck to you all for the 2013 show season.

Carlisle Show and Sale. September 2012. |
Another good entry of cattle from breeders in The North of England and South West Scotland attracted a full ringside of buyers from Ireland, Scotland and England. There were also telephone bidders who were unable to attend the sale. |
Felicity Thomson from Berkshire judged the pre-sale show her overall champion being S & K Darnbrooks served heifer Planetree Media. |
|
Reserve going to;
G & V Schofields maiden heifer Harron Fleur de Lys. |

A disappointing entry for the show probably because many breeders do not have time to halter train their cattle and are more interested in beef production where it is not necessary for their cattle to be halter trained. It was noted that the halter trained cattle did fetch the
higher prices.
The inspectors, D MacIntyre and M Kay, were again impressed by the quality of cattle entered all meeting the breed standard with only a few minor faults but 2 failing inspection due to warts (these were isolated and not sold through the ring)
Entered for the sale were 53 pedigree breeding cattle, 2 X-bred and 3 steers of which there were 51 forward. 2 failed inspection, 48 sold & only 1 did not sell. |
Top price was £2000 paid for G & V Schofields 18 month old black bull.
Harron Loyal Commando |

Top price female was L Heathcotes cow with heifer calf.
Planetree Oreithyia who made £900 |
