We had an excellent turn out for our herd visits in Bilsdale N Yorkshire, and after all meeting for coffee at Olga and Jonathan Sharp’s farm we went to look at their cows and steers. As you can see from the photos his land is quite hilly and all the dexters cows and calves looked very fit. Possibly better than some of us humans, as it was quite a pull to the top of the fields. They had a lovely bunch of steers who all came to have a look as us. Not sure who was checking who out.
After viewing the cattle we all returned to the farm to eat our lunch. Our next visit was slightly further up the dale to Alison and Derek Ingleson’s. Alison and Derek have Dexter’s, shorthorns, and 12000 hens so their mornings are taken up with collecting eggs. All the hens have access to the fields and are very tame. Quite a few of then accompanied us on our walk round the cattle. At the moment they only have a Dexter bull so they have also used him on the shorthorn cows with some success in the sale ring with the crosses.

Their current bull is Harron Sunny Jim and he looked very happy with his group of cows.
After our look round the cattle and calves we where treated to freshly baked scones with jam & cream. In all a lovely day out, great weather and company. Thank you to our hosts on the day, we all had a very enjoyable day.
Calf Show 2013 Results.
Our calf show is held by invitation of the North of England Aberdeen Angus Group and we share the Auction mart with several other breeds of cattle who also hold their calf shows on the same day. We have our own ring and this year we had our best entry for a long time for Mark Luscombe our judge to choose from.
We had some lovely calves entered and unfortunately many went home unplaced. However as the general idea of our calves show is to encourage people to have a go I hope we will have a entry to equal it for our next show in Nov 2014.
